Known for her distinct voice and reggae-inspired guitar technique, Austin native Suzanna Choffel's music has been described as "a unique sound equal parts Beat poetry, smoky soul grooves and indie-pop eccentricity." (Jim Derogatis). Having made appearances at ACL Music Fest, SXSW, Voodoo Fest, as well as on screen in movies like "Catfish" and NBC's The Voice (earning singular praise from Rolling Stone as "the only artist you'd want to listen to a complete album from"), Choffel feels equally at home singing in a dimly lit, smoky club as she does front and center in front of (literally) millions....

Known for her distinct voice and reggae-inspired guitar technique, Austin native Suzanna Choffel's music has been described as "a unique sound equal parts Beat poetry, smoky soul grooves and indie-pop eccentricity." (Jim Derogatis). Having made appearances at ACL Music Fest, SXSW, Voodoo Fest, as well as on screen in movies like "Catfish" and NBC's The Voice (earning singular praise from Rolling Stone as "the only artist you'd want to listen to a complete album from"), Choffel feels equally at home singing in a dimly lit, smoky club as she does front and center in front of (literally) millions. She has opened for a diverse array of artists including Buena Vista Social Club, Suzanne Vega, Puss’n’Boots, Davíd Garza and many others.

Drawing comparisons from ‪Aimee Mann‬ to ‪Zero 7‬ to ‪Erykah Badu‬, it's clear that Choffel is not easy to pigeon-hole. Her third studio album Hello Goodbye was released in May 2017, recorded and produced by David Boyle at Churchhouse Studios in East Austin. The 11-track album drifts from dreamy folk to funky pop and soul and features Charlie Sexton on guitar (Bob Dylan), JJ Johnson on drums (Tedeshki Trucks Band, John Mayer) and Davíd Garza on vocals. The Austin Chronicle called it "the most concrete evidence yet of the singer's strength through versatility." Texas Music Magazine named it one of the top 10 best albums of the year. Choffel just finished a tour in Europe & is heading back into the studio this winter to record new music.

About the Venue

The 04 Center provides a platform for all styles of music and entertainment in a historically welcoming space for all to enjoy.

The 04 Center is a community space in the truest sense of the word. Not only is it a revisioned and repurposed music venue, it is also home to Austin New Church, a variety of 12-step programs & support groups, an award winning after school care program, and a progressive and inclusive Latino faith community. The building was originally Faith United Methodist Church since 1968 and in January of 2018 became home to Austin New Church and took on the name The 04 Center.

Our name is taken from a term Austinites use for South Austin, “The 04,” taken from our zip code, 78704. Pronounced, “The “O” Four Center."
