Mariko started her band in Seattle, Washington around 2013 Mariko has intuitively pursued her creative inclinations her whole life and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cornish College of the Arts. She has an extensive background as a performer and as a visual & multimedia artist. Mariko’s recordings and live performances have been compared to Janis Joplin, Stevie Nicks, Dolly Parton, Ann Wilson, Chan Marshall, Gillian Welch, Adele, Adrianne Lenker and Grace Potter, to name a few. Despite reminiscent qualities of these varied artists; she is a unique songbird all her own. Mariko began performing her own original songs in 2012 and has made several records since, most recently Come Into The Circle released in winter of 2023. Come Into The Circle, an intimate capture recorded at a home in Austin, TX. Temple Canyon is nostalgic rocky canyon magic now brewing in Austin, TX. Vintage tones and vibes, rapturous rock and roll hollowing out to reflective, soulful, storytelling. Carrying an essence of Laurel Canyon’s “Ladies of the Canyon” and a hollowed out mountain of miners smoke, Temple Canyon creates timeless songs with a “voice that cuts like a knife.” The name Temple Canyon has become synonymous with all music made by Mariko Ruhle over the last pruner decade; Whether she is rocking out with her band mates Timothy Van Buren or Al Reiter or strumming solo, she throws her songs out to the crowd like an anchor bringing her listeners to the shore. TC has been a stable of the Seattle music scene; in "the rainy city" they carved out a place for Mariko’s songs to forever echo and intertwine with artists like Chris King, Cumulus, Low Hums, and countless other local rockers. Temple Canyon is especially honored to have shared stages with acts like Lydia Loveless, Lilly Hiatt, Shaina Shepherd, Hannah Wicklund, BYLAND, Giants In The Trees and Austin’s own The Deer. Temple Canyon has always embraced whatever genre would take them in; people have labeled them as various drug induced types of rock, as well as alt-country, shoe gazer, punk, folk, you name it. Starting out in a city like Seattle their eclectic nature settled them well among historic Seattle bands like Heart, Pearl Jam and Nirvana which all tend to be mentioned by people saying what they think of when they hear Temple Canyon, along with most frequently noted Fleetwood Mac, and Janis Joplin. At the core you find very truthful songs written with a heavy heart and a voice untamed, just out looking for her home.
