The Wind and The Wave

Austin, Texas-based the Wind and the Wave comprise the best-friend duo of Dwight Baker and Patricia Lynn, both of whom had prior histories on the Austin music scene before joining forces as a performing act in 2009. Lynn had been a member of the band Soldier Thread, while Baker had been a touring musician who gave up the road in 2003 to concentrate on songwriting and production work, opening his own Matchbox Studios in Austin. After doing production on a couple of Soldier Thread albums, Baker joined forces with Lynn to record a debut duo album, From the Wreckage, a solid folk, country, and pop outing. The album impressed folks at RCA Records , who signed the duo in 2013 and released From the Wreckage in the summer of 2014, led by the lead single “With Your Two Hands.”

One of RCA ‘s promotional tactics for the album was to place tracks on the soundtracks of popular television shows, and various songs off From the Wreckage were heard on episodes of Nashville, Hart of Dixie, The Vampire Diaries, and Grey’s Anatomy. Despite this, RCA cut ties with the Wind and the Wave, and the duo struck a new deal with Island Records . Their first album for Island , Happiness Is Not a Place, was released in May 2016; a rougher and more rock-oriented effort, the album soon rose to number 20 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. ~ Steve Leggett, Rovi
