Saghar Bozorgi is an Iranian graduate student of Middle Eastern History. Before coming to Austin, she studied Sociology, political science and Middle and Near Eastern Studies in Tehran, Budapest and New York. In 2018, she joined Bereket, UT’s Middle Eastern Music Ensemble, as a choir member and frame drum player. What started as a hobby turned into a passion when she started learning Santur in Summer 2019, a classical persian string instrument. Within a semester, she started playing Santur in every concert of Bereket at Bass Recital Hall and Central Market every semester. Before graduation, she hopes to have an audience listening to her perform Santur in the streets of Downtown Austin (already started practicing the act in West Mall). She enjoys jamming with other instrumental musicians in Halcyon on Tuesdays.
