Blending dreamy and grungy textures with wistfully sweet vocal melodies, Texas’ Moving Panoramas are helmed by songwriter Leslie Sisson. The project’s debut, One, arrived in 2015.
Sisson found steady work as a touring musician while based in Brooklyn in the early to mid-2010s. After a series of life-changing events, she moved back to her native Texas to be closer to family. Once there, those events inspired her to write several songs that led to the formation of Moving Panoramas. The Austin-based group’s first album was recorded with engineer/co-producer Louie Lino and the lineup of Sisson, bass player Rozie Castoe, and drummer Karen Skloss. The resulting One was released by Modern Outsider Records in 2015.
Sisson went on to play with a variety of indie bands in Austin, including Wooden Birds , Western Keys , and Black Lipstick . Also leader of the country band the Rated Exes, her other gigs included touring as a crew member for acts including Vampire Weekend . Amidst her busy schedule, she worked on material for a second Moving Panoramas album. Eventually reuniting with Lino in the studio, Sisson recorded In Two with bandmates Cara Tillman, Jordan Rivell, Jody Suarez, and Phil McJunkins. Released in 2019, guests on the album included Nada Surf ‘s Matthew Caws and A Giant Dog ‘s Sabrina Ellis in addition to Skloss and other former Panoramas. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
