A versatile Lone Star State combo who excel at both songcraft and groove, Austin’s Los Coast employ a rich and hip-shaking amalgam of pop, soul, R&B, funk, gospel, and psychedelic rock.
Formed in 2015 around the talents of Trey Privott (lead vocals, guitar), John Courtney (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Megan Hartman (bass), Damien Llanes, (drums), and Natalie Wright (keyboards), the group honed their live skills via a weekly residency at the local club C-Boys. Their unique blend of idiosyncratic beats, earworm melodies, and the commanding and soulful vocals of the Georgia-born Pivott, whose uncle is former Late Show with David Letterman guitarist Hiram Bullock , helped make them a fixture in the vibrant Austin music scene. A 2016 performance at the Austin City Limits festival brought them even more hometown acclaim, as did the arrival of the gospel-funk debut single “Summer Samaritan.” In 2018, they released three more cuts, “Monster,” “Simplify,” and “The Morning Weight,” all of which appeared on the group’s first full-length effort, the New West -issued Samsara, in 2019. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
