Lex Land is a singer-songwriter and jazz vocalist living in Austin, TX. Originally aspiring to a career in classical music, Land dropped out of university study to pursue her pop ambitions and sign with indie label Intelligent Noise. In 2009, she left Los Angeles to make Austin her home.
Lex began recording her debut album, “Orange Days on Lemon Street” (which critics deemed “a fantastic mix of honey sweet folk and dense, beat driven folk-rock”), at age 19 . In 2011 she followed it up with a more eclectic, electrified, and genre-hopping sophomore record, “Were My Sweetheart To Go.” Both records earned “Best of iTunes” honors and also received several featured song placements on television programs, including “Private Practice”, “Castle”, and “Bones.” In the midst of supporting her two previously released albums, Lex represented Austin, TX as a Team-Blake-finalist on NBC’s “The Voice” in 2012.
It was in Texas, however, that Lex truly found her voice. While her music always included and was influenced by sounds from the early 20th Century, it was during the grind of pursuing a life of live gigs that she realized jazz was her spiritual and musical “home.” Since then, she has released multiple albums and collections independently, the latest just this year, “Alone for a While.”
With a knack for combining music history education with bringing a fresh perspective to songs of old, Lex’s penchant for the past enchants and surprises music listeners the world over.
