J Reese began his musical journey in his family home before the age of two, singing for anyone who would listen as his father played the guitar. This translated into church at a young age as a singer and eventually an instrumentalist.
At an early age, he knew that music would play a pivotal role in his life. His career as a musician encompasses studio work, songwriting, vocal arranging/coaching and working with many well-known groups and organizations including the Austin Lyric Opera. He is currently a lead vocalist for several ensembles which provide entertainment for corporate conventions, parties, weddings, and more.
J Reese is a proud HBCU alumnus where through classical training, he refined his approach to music and sharpened his technical skill. His sound consists of elements of Jazz, Soul, Gospel, and Funk. His vocal stylings are derived from artists such as Prince, Marvin Gaye, PJ Morton, Stevie Wonder, Sarah Vaughn, and Chaka Khan.
With the ability to artistically command his Four Octave range, his most common quote to musicians is: “I will sing in whatever key you play in.”
Most importantly, J Reese performs solo shows with his band “J Reese Collective”, consisting of original and cover music, artist tribute shows. He also collaborates with many local artists and collectives. Some of his career highlights consist of serving as a background vocalist for Diana Ross during her Austin City Limits show and Jelly Roll on his debut CMT performance. J Reese is in the works of releasing more original material and collaborations in the months to come.
