Izzy Keena combines the songwriting and craft of Austin musicianship along with a concise production style akin to the music producers of Los Angeles. What comes forth aligns moving rhythms and thick bass lines with a danceable back beat while delivering potent lyrics whose subtle message can not be ignored.
After spending the early 2000’s in L.A. recording studios engineering records among the likes of Teddy Riley, Salaam Remi and Tricky Stewart respectively, Omar Reyna moved to Austin in 2009 to perform live and collaborate with local talent, including his brother, Andres. Their first project together produced a Texas blues-based progressive hard rock album under the moniker Southern Envy; an indisputable reflection of the brothers’ special musical connection.
The brothers were introduced to journeyman bassist, EJ Laurel III at a rehearsal for a one-time private gig in the spring of 2017. Laurel’s dexterity on bass allowed Andres to create a variety of drum lines which inspired guitar riffs and vocal melodies. In a final emergence from the bands they previously performed with, the trio’s unifying South Texas roots quickly afforded them a solid friendship and collaboration that became an album’s worth of multi-genre material altogether uniquely cohesive.
Izzy Keena’s well rounded style recalls the inception of Rock & Roll, Alternative, Americana and R&B.
