Ellis features the plaintive, confessional songwriting of Canada’s Linnea Siggelkow. Embellishing spare, guitar-accompanied introspection with washes of wistful keyboard atmosphere, her full-length debut, Born Again, arrived in 2020.
A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Siggelkow grew up with a mother who taught piano, and Linnea took up the instrument at age four. At 12, she bought her first guitar with money earned from babysitting, and she started writing songs in her mid-teens. Although anxiety prevented her from performing publicly early on, she began playing in local bands after relocating to Toronto in her early twenties.
Taking the name Ellis from her initials (L.S.), she soon began performing her solo material in D.I.Y. spaces and released her self-produced debut EP, The Fuzz, in 2018. That led to a record deal with Fat Possum , which reissued The Fuzz, then delivered her first album, Born Again, in April 2020. It was produced by Jake Aron ( Snail Mail , Yumi Zouma ) and partly recorded at his studio in Brooklyn. ~ Marcy Donelson, Rovi
